The Waenhuiskrans Nature Reserve is rich in archaeological sources and it is essential that the reserve be managed and protected with sensitivity.
A management plan as well as a tourism plan for the nature reserve has been drawn up by representatives of the main interest groups in the town. This plan allows for unrestricted pedestrian access, but controls the access of 4X4 vehicles to the reserve. The income that can be gained by implementing a proper management plan will, according to the plan, be used to provide the local inhabitants with new job opportunities and to simultaneously manage and conserve a unique heritage resource. The management plan for the Waenhuiskrans Nature Reserve has been discussed and approved at eighteen public meetings, and the initial supporters as well as opponents of the deproclamation of the road through the reserve have signed the plan. The Cape Agulhas Municipality did not sign off on the plan.
